MOSCOW, OHIO – An Ohio man says he bulldozed his US$350,000 home to keep a bank from foreclosing on it.

Terry Hoskins says he has struggled with the RiverHills Bank over his home in Moscow for years and had problems with the Internal Revenue Service. He says the IRS placed liens on his carpet store and commercial property and the bank claimed his house as collateral.

Hoskins says he owes $160,000 on the house. He says he spent a lot of money on attorneys and finally had enough. About two weeks ago he bulldozed the home 25 miles southeast of Cincinnati.

Messages were left for the bank and its attorney. IRS spokeswoman Jodie Reynolds said individual taxpayer information is private and federal law prevents her from commenting.

Squirrel Nabbed for Eating Junk Food

You can’t blame a squirrel for being tempted by all the junk food found in gas station convenience stores. Especially with a stiff winter chill blanketing the Midwest. But you’d think they’d go after the nuts or crackers - not so apparently.

“As [Ohio cop] Sergeant Doug Hines was talking with a store employee, they heard a rustling coming from one of the aisles and found an adult black squirrel munching on some chocolate snack cakes.

Police say Officer Brandon McCray arrived to provide back-up, and there were some unsuccessful attempts to wrangle the animal out of the store — until the squirrel attached itself to McCray’s back.”

McCray ran outside, where the squirrel was brushed off his back, and escaped, unharmed, tummy full of cookies.

Mama Always Said to Dress for Success

Mayor Stu Rasmussen, 61, of Silverton, Ore., elected last year even though he dresses openly as a woman, drew criticism from officials of a community group in July when he addressed students while wearing a miniskirt and a swimsuit top. Critics suggested he should dress at least in "professional" women's clothes when speaking to youth groups. [KATU-TV (Portland), 7-23-09]

Big Treat on Halloween

TERRACE PARK, Ohio - A Halloween trick or treater in Ohio may have gotten a bigger treat than expected - a diamond ring.

A woman in suburban Cincinnati tells WXIX-TV she thinks she may have lost her wedding ring when she was tossing candy into trick or treaters' bags on Halloween.

Elizabeth Olson says she had the ring enlarged and thinks it may have slipped off her finger when she was throwing candy into the bags, buckets and pillowcases.

Olson is asking people to keep an eye out for the ring and to return it to her if they find it.
